TMI Mini Mix no. 4

Sorry for the delay, folks. The March Mini Mix is here at last, and TMI is waxing nostalgic big time. Remember the 90s? We spent the better part of the decade in denial that we were living them, but now there's nothing like a bout of that relentlessly peppy, obnoxious, caffeinated, self-important pop. Here are a few of my favs, though in the interest of being completely honest, I didn't really listen to much contemporary music, so there's not a big pool to draw from in the iTunes collection.

1. All Star : Smash Mouth
2. Semi-Charmed Life : Third Eye Blind
3. 3 AM : Matchbox Twenty
4. Roll to Me : Del Amitri
5. One Week : Barenaked Ladies

TMI Mini Mix no. 3

In case you didn't notice, I hit the blogosphere pretty hard last month, along with my iTunes library in general. The result? I'm totally sick of my music. All of it. That's really saying something, because I have a buttload, to use a scientific term, of music.

So, that poses a problem when the first of the month rolls around and I've got to put together the Mini Mix. What do I do if I can't stand anything I have? Answer: go completely random.

I've been dabbling in Animal Collective lately in an effort to get to know them, so this month I'm just going to pick five random Animal Collective songs and hope that March's Mini Mix will be extra inspired and extra fresh.

1. Purple Bottle
2. Banshee Beat
3. Peacebone
4. Leaf House
5. Grass

*Note: I make no guarantees. I judged solely on cool-sounding song titles. "My Girls" would have been included but iLike didn't have it. Sadness.

TMI Mini Mix no. 2

Is there a better way to start off 2009 than with TMI Mini Mix no. 2? I can think of none. Last week my friend gave me a copy of an album called The Midnight Organ Fight by Frightened Rabbit, a group from Scotland. I've been spending some quality time with the album and I'm liking it a lot. I put a good deal of stock in what my friend recommends and he's yet to suggest a dud.

I thought I'd build the mini mix around one track called "Old Old Fashioned" which as got this awesome skiffle thing going on and that inevitably brought me to "I've Just Seen a Face" by The Beatles and things just spiraled. Anyway, take a listen. It'll be up all month.

Best of luck in 2009, here's to hoping you've sufficiently recovered from last night.

1. I've Just Seen a Face : Paul McCartney
2. Old Old Fashioned : Frightened Rabbit
3. Long Day : Matchbox Twenty
4. Turn On Me : The Shins
5. The Underdog : Spoon

TMI Mini Mix

If you use Blogger, you might have seen that iLike now has a widget for blogs, so in essence you can stick your tunes right on your blog and readers can listen without leaving the page. I think it's a terrific little feature, so I'm doing away with the Inclined Toward sidebar and replacing it with the TMI Mini Mix. Inclined Toward was basically a links list of 10 songs that I'd been listening to. Due to the number of songs and my absent-mindedness, it wasn't getting updated as often I'd have liked. It would get stale, in other words.

TMI Mini Mix differs in a few ways. For one, it will be brand spanking new at the start of every month. Also, it's a mix (no kidding) so I'll be indulging my secret love of putting together mix tapes (more like playlists and cds these days) to create a combination of songs that go well together in some respect.

This month, I found on iLike a song by Their Hearts Were Full of Spring called "As long as the Sun Shines" that I hadn't heard. You can get it as a free mp3 from iLike, FYI. I love this band greatly, so I just built the mix around their instrumentation and overall sunniness.

Feedback is always welcome. Enjoy.
