The Hood Internet Remixes R. Kelly and Phoenix

It's been a certifiably crappy week stateside. I think we can all agree on that. The best I can do for you this Friday is direct you to two and a half minutes of remix magic entitled "Ignition (1901 remix)" by the Hood Internet. As you might gather from the title, it is nothing other than R. Kelly's "Ignition" diced up with Phoenix's  "1901." Or if you're like me, it's a collision between the spring of 8th grade and sophomore year of college. Wowzer, you know what I mean? Those were different times.

Anyway. R. Kelly and Phoenix did some collaborating at Coachella last weekend. Couldn't get anyone to tell me why, but I guess that's irrelevant now. The Hood Internet took it upon themselves to recreate the remix and here we are. Take a listen. Oh, and you can download it too. (WHAT.)

Bonus round: I also found an interesting mashup of "1901" and "New Slang" by the Shins. I wish my brain worked that way.

Stream the New Phoenix Album

Allow me to thank the Internet. The demand for content is so overpowering, that we now require things like albums to come out before they come out. It's a good age to be a bottomless pit of a pop culture consumer. And I say that with love, I really do.

This week we get the new Phoenix album Bankrupt! a whole week early courtesy of iTunes. My one-word review two tracks in is: YES.

Anyway, be off with you and go listen.

New Single from Phoenix

New single from Phoenix, today. Check out the lyric video for "Entertainment" above. The song is unmistakably Phoenix. I'll say that. Looking forward to Bankrupt!'s April 23 release date.

Phoenix Announces Album Title (Or Begs For Help)

From the Phoenix Facebook page.
More news from camp Phoenix. The French alt-rockers announced the name of their upcoming album today. Bankrupt! is set to hit shelves (or Amazon. Whatever.) sometime in April. It would suck if the band was actually bankrupt and we were just sitting here rubbing our hands together at the prospect of new music and they're all "We had to sell our instruments and the bassist's kidney to keep the sharks at bay, guys!"

Regardless, if you're into Internet-induced seizures, check out their website.

The new album follows 2009's Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix which was, in a word, asickalbum. Stay tuned.

Phoenix Announces New Album

French band Phoenix announced plans for a follow up to 2009's Amadeus Wolfgang Phoenix. No word yet on a title or track listing, but it should hit shelves sometime in April. In the meantime, watch the video for "1901," a song that I probably listened to everyday the summer I bought the album. Here's to a possible new obsession this spring.

1901 : Phoenix

In the past few months I've heard so much hype for French pop/rock band Phoenix, that my initial reaction was to avoid them, or more like, casually just never get around to looking them up.

Two things changed that. First, they turned up on the cover of a magazine I like, and second, I caught one of NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts. It was watching said Tiny Desk Concert that I realized that the peppy, buzzy song playing underneath that Cadillac commercial from a while ago was Phoenix's "1901."

Commence song crush. It's a really great tune, and cool in the non-overused, generic, sense of the word. It's the type of song I want to be caught listening to. Definitely check it out.
